Comercial soap bars are really synthetic detergents very similar to laundry or dish detergents. Handcrafted/Handmade Soap is soap in its true, pure form. Handcrafted Soaps can be made by either a Cold Process or Hot Process. Both processes produce soaps that, when properly made, contain both soap and moisture rich glycerin.

Why is Glycerin Important?
Glycerin, which occurs naturally in the making of Handcrafted Soap, is necessary to retain moisture. Commercial soap makers remove the glycerin from their soap and sell it to the cosmetic industry.

What is Saponification?
Saponification is the chemical reaction created by combining oils or fats with an alkali (lye). This is what creates soap from the raw materials.

Is there Lye in my soap?
No. When Handcrafted Soap is properly made and cured, the soap no longer contains lye, as the chemical reaction has converted the alali (lye), water and oils into saponified oils, fats and glycerin. The end result is mild, pure Handcrafted Soap.

How do I make my Handcrafted Soap last longer?
Handcrafted Soap is heavier (denser) than most commercial soap and will last a long time. To get the most out of your bar, place it in a well drained soap dish after every use.

What is Handcrafted Soap made of?
Look at the label, it should list the ingredients. Soap makers use a variety of vegetable and/or animal oils for their base. Some soap makers use tallow which is derived from animal fat.
Most soap makers scent their soap using essential oils or fragrance oils. Cosmetic grade pigments are often used for color.
